The Bench by the River
1
MK123
Every afternoon, two unlikely friends met at the same old wooden bench by the river. Max, a shy boy with a tangle of dark hair, loved drawing little creatures in his notebook. Sophie, a lively girl with a laugh that could echo for miles, loved telling stories.
At first, they didn’t say much. Max would sketch, Sophie would talk, and the river would murmur beside them. But slowly, a quiet rhythm formed—he drew the scenes she imagined, and she told stories inspired by his drawings. Dragons landed on rooftops, cats wore tiny hats, and rivers ran with rainbow water.
One rainy day, Max hesitated to come. Sophie waited, worried, and when he finally arrived, he held out a drawing: it was Sophie, standing on the bench, smiling, holding a tiny dragon. “I made this for you,” he said softly.
Sophie grinned, “I made a story about it!”
From that day, their friendship deepened—not just through drawings or stories, but in the small acts that mattered: sharing an umbrella, saving each other’s favorite bench spot, cheering when the other achieved something small or big.
Years later, even when life carried them to different cities, they returned to the bench every summer. And every time, the river whispered, carrying laughter, drawings, and stories across the current—proof that true friendship could span any distance, as long as hearts remembered.
